A Mancunian legend returns to Manchester.
Originally founded 1937 here in Manchester, Baracuta initially used the local cotton trade to manufacture rain macs for many (now) high end companies, we are sure you can guess the names here, if you don't know already.
John and Isaac Miller (Baracuta's founders) took inspiration from their success, wanting to build on it with their own range of outerwear to serve various purposes with the same style and integrity they put in to their macs for other companies. Their process of research and development to create waterproof outer garments for various outdoor pursuits eventually led to their most famous design, the G9. Success had brought them access to the great and good (and not so good nor great) of Manchester society and most vital to this creation, invitation to the Manchester Golf Club House. Here they realised the potential for a jacket that could be worn in inclement weather to play the game. The high, buttoned, collar, ribbed cuffs and deep pockets along with the famous umbrella back yoke (imitating a the contours of a cape) made it a resounding success with all that took it on.
The success spread far and wide, soon arriving at the Golf clubs in the USA. Once established in this environment it wasn't long before the jacket took a step outside of the sport it was intended for. The famous names that are so well connected with the jacket made sure that now, it wasn't just a sportswear jacket but a veritable icon which has lasted and will continue to have a very special place in the menswear wardrobe.
The G9 is still made in England but now with their own fabric designed not just for that northern English weather but everyday wear all around the world. Over the years so many subcultures have taken to the G9, there are details in the design that make it fit like no other. Imitated by so many over the years, no one has come close to the original.
