There are so many re-issues that only pay lip service to the original that it takes many by surprise to see a one for one re-issue. The throwback to a time where trainers weren't lined, didn't have the reinforcements to the toe and heel to 'bulk' them up and give them an artificial shape, the contemporary fabrics used for detailing, the lower cut to the ankle, the list goes on. This is not one of those re-issues, it is just as the original was all those years ago (1972).
For us, this makes this issue all the better. The Rivea was never a sports designed shoe anyway, it was for casual wear as the name suggests, strolling along the beach front, sitting and sipping in whatever takes your fancy. Subtle colourways to work with a variety of outfits and never dominating them. Maybe this is out of step with what everyone seems to want, maybe many have lost the idea of wanting to stand out amongst the crowd, so many chasing the same shoe without thought that this is to be overlooked. That would be a huge pity in our opinion, this is a great re-issue and deserves to be applauded and worn, heavily.
