Russell Athletic was founded in 1902 by Benjamin Russell in Alexander City, AL, USA. Initially manufacturing sports wear for the local area it was in 1926 that the idea to replace the wool jersey, worn prior to sports, with a less itchy cotton version. In 1930 their iconic crew neck cotton sweatshirt was born.
Over the years they have manufactured sporting apparel and casual wear for the US military and so many sports teams along with collaborating with many fashion and cultural icons. In all this time they have always been driven to make the best sweatshirts and t-shirts they can.
